Chapter 9: Narcissus
What started as a manifesto very clearly became something else. If game journalism remains the same on the whole, so be it. If IGN and snarky blogs make readers happy, and they’re not asking for more, who the heck am I to judge? We’re not going to change the system from the inside, I know that now. We’ve most of us taken or rejected those traditional game press jobs, and been urged or exhausted into complying with their ad-hock practices, and we’ve either done it, not worked there, or failed to make the impact we wanted. Nothing will change unless people want it to. We can do a bit of convincing, but we can’t force people to want more.
Insert Credit is being written so that its authors have something to read. By entering into discussion with us, and challenging us to improve, you who read alongside us become our editors and our guides. This site is for all of us who want something a little different. We won’t always succeed, but that’s okay. In failing, if we learn something, that’s another kind of success. Let’s fail a whole durn bunch and have some fun in the process. Welcome back.
Brandon Sheffield will see this through.
